Summer holiday support from Children and Family Centres

Our Children and Family centres are open 52 weeks of the year from 8.30 am until 4.30 pm. Family Centres may even be open later than that!

The centres will continue to provide a vital range of valuable services over the school summer holidays – so please share this information with your school’s learning mentor or pastoral leads so they can signpost children, young people and families to us.

What’s on offer?

  • A range of period products on offer for children and young people who need them throughout the summer. Young people, or their parents, will be able to collect the products from any of our 17 centres. (We’ll also leave some products outside the centres – so that children and young people can pick them up without accessing the centres if they’d rather not come in.)
  • A large food poverty offer
  • Support on a wide range of issues for young people and parents/carers

Please refer to the list of centres and their contact details below. You and your teams can contact any of them to find out more about the support available, or to signpost families before the summer break starts.

Free energy support helpline

Did you know that Milton Keynes City Council is funding a free ‘Warmth and Wellbeing Helpline?’ It offers advice to people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.

MK residents can call freephone 0800 107 0044 Monday to Friday from 9.00am – 5.00pm to get advice from the National Energy Foundation’s Better Housing Better Health team. The team will explain how to get better energy deals and how to apply for insulation and energy efficiency grants. Residents could save as much as £115 a year by implementing the advice.

Other support

The Sustainable Warmth Programme involves improvement works to homes, which can take several months and will help households ready for next winter. Many residents need urgent help now – the Energy Saving Trust offers practical tips on where people can turn for help paying energy bills.

NHS Healthy Start

MK Council are promoting the NHS Healthy Start initiative, which could be worth £8.50 each week for families on certain benefits and a low income to buy fruit, vegetables and milk.

People can apply at www.healthystart.nhs.uk/how-to-apply if you are pregnant or have at least one child under 4 years old.

We hope this is helpful.
