Mrs Leanne Maddocks

Year 6 Class Teacher

I joined the Kents Hill Park team as it entered its second year of development.  I opened the very first Year 4 Parks class, continuing this role for two years before welcoming the first Year 6 Mandela class.

I gained a degree in Psychology from University of Central Lancashire before starting my own family. I became a Learning Support Assistant at my own childhood primary school, where my interest in pursuing a career in education grew.

For seven years, I supported year 6 pupils in preparation for their SATs and realised I wanted a more proactive role in education. Subsequently, I completed my PGCE qualification before carrying out my NQT year in KS2 as a year 5 teacher at an all-through school in Blackpool. In my second year of teaching, I remained in year 5 but with the added challenge of also teaching KS3 maths. This led to my role as a member of the Primary Maths Co-Ordinator team and involvement in a quality improvement group across Blackpool schools.

Year 6 is a pivotal year for children. As such, I endeavour to support children as they develop their independence and self-confidence, preparing them for their transition to secondary school whilst readying them for the challenge of SATs.  As a parent myself, I appreciate the privileged position teachers hold, spending such significant amounts of time interacting with young people. Therefore, I aim to inspire a love of learning in my students, promoting pride and respect (for self and others), ambition to be the best version of oneself and resilience in the face of challenge. Teaching is a job like no other – each day is unique – and I strive to make every day count.
