Mrs Magaly Betts-Murphy

Teacher of Languages

I moved from North Wales to Milton Keynes in 2007 for my first teaching job. I graduated from Liverpool John Moores with a bachelors degree in International Business studies and Spanish, and my PGCE in secondary teaching with Spanish and French in 2006.

My teaching career has enabled me to grow not only as a classroom teacher of languages, but also a tutor, Lead tutor and temporary Spanish Lead. I took a short break in 2016, to look after my children, however I have continued to mark the GCSE Spanish speaking exam for the AQA exam board. I returned to teaching in 2018.

My passion for languages extends from my maternal family. They all live in Chile, my mother was from Punta Arenas and we moved to the UK in 1987. I grew up with a heavy Latin American influence from food, music, dance and obviously the language. I learnt most of my Spanish in school and at University, where I spent a year in Málaga, Spain. A city I fell in love with and I still have strong contacts with my Spanish friends.

I endeavour to engage and ignite a passion for languages through my teaching. I strongly believe that learning another language creates a more respectful, understanding, compassionate and open minded individual and society. I am excited to be given the opportunity to help develop and grow the language department alongside Mrs Holland.

Outside of school, I love to cook, spend time with my family, lift weights (yes really!) and go salsa dancing.
