Dr Natasha Henwood

Head of Chemistry

I originally trained as a geologist, earning a degree at the University of Leicester followed by a PhD at the University of Edinburgh. After a drawn out early career involving environmental charity work and a fair amount of temping, I eventually enjoyed seven rather exciting years as a field geologist and then consultant, spending weeks or months at a time exploring for metal deposits in the remote Arctic.

The arrival of my daughter prompted a rethink of my career and I realised that the mainstay of all my roles had been science communication; of all the different things I had done, I had always found a way to communicate my love of science, be it within my job or else in a voluntary capacity. Thus retraining as a teacher seemed the obvious next step.

Fast forward to September 2019 and I am over the moon to be joining the science department at Kents Hill Park. I would like to say ‘welcome back’ to all returning students and ‘welcome’ to our new cohort. Finally, I look forward to getting to know you all and introducing you to the wonderful world of science.
