Year 3 Curriculum

Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egyptians will be our final topic of the year, extending across both halves of the Summer Term. As Historians we will travel back in time to the deserts of Ancient Egypt to explore daily life, pharaohs, pyramids and much more. For our Super Start, we will delve into the process of mummification, but that is all I am saying for now!

During the first half term, our English lessons will focus on the text ‘Ma At’s Feather’ by Juliet Desailly. We know some of you enjoy sharing our class texts at home, but we ask that this one is only read in school as we will be making predictions as we move through the story. There are lots of other books, both fiction and non-fiction, that you can read at home such as Horrible Histories.

We will begin to prepare for our Marvellous Middle as we lead up to half term by researching and designing death masks. On our return to school we will create our own death mask papier-mâché sculptures. As we move through the topic we will apply our geography skills to explore modern day Egypt and the importance of the River Nile. For our Fabulous Finish we would like to invite you to our Ancient Egyptian performance to bring our first year to a close.

As part of our PHSE curriculum, we will be watching clips from Newsround to broaden the children’s understanding of current affairs.
