Year 3 Curriculum

World War Two

Our new topic will focus on how World War Two was experienced by children, especially those who were evacuated. For our Super Start, the children will meet Mrs Hamilton who was an evacuee during the Second World War. She will share her experiences and the children will be able to ask questions to deepen their knowledge.

As Geographers, we will study Europe and, as Historians, we will explore air raids and rationing. We are looking forward to celebrate our love of reading on World Book Day on Thursday 7th March and learning about the different characters the children choose to dress up as. For our Marvellous Middle we will be visiting Holdenby House in order to experience the hardships of life in 1942. The children will be immersed in wartime life and will be able to apply their learning first-hand.

As we begin to bring our topic to a close, we will be lucky enough to meet another evacuee, Mr Abbott, who will share his experiences of evacuation with the class. For our Fabulous Finish we would like to invite you to our ‘Wartime Museum’ where we will be showcasing our topic work from the half term. A letter with more details will follow shortly.

As part of our PHSE curriculum, we will be watching clips from Newsround to broaden the children’s understanding of current affairs.
